Predictive DTMs
How do I adapt Heirloom to a Nordic or short northern growing season?
Set Heirloom to your own frost dates, season and climate, and every harvest date in your plan fits a short northern summer, whether you farm in Scandinavia, Finland, Iceland or northern Canada. When you set up your farm, Auto-Fill suggests your frost dates from your address: check them against what you know of your land and correct them. Set Season starts in to the month your growing year begins, in Settings, Season & climate. See Set up your farm.
Then turn on Use climate-adjusted DTM in your plantings: days to maturity follow your farm’s own climate, day length included, so the long days of a northern summer are part of the prediction. In your Charts, each crop’s curve shows the Optimal Growing Period: its last weeks are the last sowings that still mature before the cold. See Read a crop’s DTM curve.

Plan your greenhouse and tunnel crops with their own Location type to stretch the season at both ends. And if your crops still mature faster or slower than predicted, change the crop’s Average DTM in your Charts: the curve follows your number. See Change your crop and cultivar values.
